Git Basic Training for Drupal Contributors: Hands On

Randy Fay 18 August 2010
Type:  BOF session

Come and learn the basics of Git so you'll be ready for the Great Git Migration. Through hands-on interaction with Git you'll learn the basics of cloning a repository, refreshing it, changing branches, creating and applying a patch.

The workshop presentation is posted here

Requirements:

  • An internet-connected computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux, or VAX/VMS if it has Git)
  • Git installed and command-line access to it
  • The patch tool
  • If you don't have these things, we'll help you set them up.

The resources page in the presentation has links to places to get you started on a Git install.

    Anybody is welcome to this.

It might be too high level for you if you completely hate the command line.
It might be too low level for you if you've done anything with git.

Drupal for Change: building an open framework for activists

    Campbell Vertesi 17 August 2010
    Type:  BOF session

Non-profit and activist organizations are some of the biggest adopters of Drupal. The integration with CiviCRMand the plethora of tools available for Drupal 6 offer a lot of potential for the platform. We are leading a re-write of the Drupal Activism module, geared towards Drupal 7 - and a lot more openness. Let's talk about what activist organizations really need, what systems they use, and how we can make Drupal 7 the best platform out there for non-profits of all stripes.

We are planning the next generation of Activism functionality for Drupal 7, integrating CiviCRM with functionality that many non-profits could really use. Letters to legislators, online petitions, "tell a friend" campaigns, and more. We are building this as an open framework, that anyone can extend to add more functionality, different CRM systems, and other advanced features.

    Let's make Drupal faster

    chx 16 August 2010
    Type:  BOF session

Drupal 7, there is no doubt, became too slow

Let's discuss. I have some ideas of where it's slow (lots of Drupal render...) and I would love to come up with solutions that keep flexibility but makes it speedier.

I do not know why a Birds of a Feather session would require fifty words so I am adding some fluff.

    Aegir

    Dave Hall 14 August 2010
    Type:  BOF session

Discuss what is happening with Aegir, how you are using it and learn about what others are doing.

There is a lot happening with Aegir these days.

The BoF will provide an excellent opportunity for users and developers to get together and talk about the project. What are the long terms plans are for Aegir? How are you using Aegir? How are others using it? What can we learn from each other? The questions along with others will be raised and (hopefully) answered during the session.

Come along an influence the how we build Skynet using Drupal!

  • Lightning talks – open mic

    Anonymous 11 August 2010
    Type:  Session in official program

This session is reserved for short 5-minute lightning talks. If you want to give a talk or present your cool Drupal project, please register for a speaker slot at the registration desk in the lobby. To make this session run as smooth as possible, you won't be able to use your own laptop (to cut down on the time used to get from one speaker to the next). Bring your presentation on a USB stick or structure it in such a way that you only need a webbrowser to support your talk.

The Federated Social Web and Drupal

    Ronald Ashri 11 August 2010
    Type:  BOF session

The move towards decentralising social activity on the web is gaining ground with efforts such as Ostatus providing a common set of standards and concepts for people to debate and hopefully, eventually agree on.

Drupal - as one of the most popular and forward thinking CMSs should take front-stage in this effort. The aim of this meeting is to bring together people interested in the Federated Social Web and in technologies such as Activity Streams, Pubsubhubbub, Salmon and WebFinger and plan how to make Drupal a fully qualified member of the federated social web.

    DrupalCRM: a native Drupal-based CRM

    Chris Cohen 11 August 2010
    Type:  BOF session

Up until now, CRMs have been accessible through API modules, or partially integrated such as CiviCRM. Creating a Drupal CRM will be no easy task, so we're gathering to discuss how to proceed with this mammoth undertaking.

Please note this session has been moved from the earlier time of 10:00-10:50.

Up until now, CRMs have been accessible through API modules, or partially integrated such as CiviCRM. Creating a Drupal CRM will be no easy task, so we're gathering to discuss how to proceed with this mammoth undertaking.

The CRM will be developed for Drupal 7 and, resources permitting, be backported to Drupal 6.

    The key issues for discussion:

    • Will DCRM use profile2 entities to represent contacts, and if so, what needs to be included?
